Take-Off to Paradise, without the Worry of Leaving Work Behind
Going to Mexico for an entire month sounds like a wonderful idea in theory, but for those who have demanding jobs and things to take care of back home – it can seem daunting to disconnect for an extended period of time. On top of that, it could quickly get expensive having to connect at a moments notice especially with the crazy roaming rates carriers put in place. Steve Glassman, brother of our friend Howard Glassman from Humble and Fred Radio, owns his own production company, Glassman Productions, which requires him to be available on the go. He recently spent a month in Mexico.
Prior to his trip, Howard told Steve about GigSky, and decided to hook him up with a GigSky Hotspot. With 15 hours of battery life and the ability to connect up to 32 devices, Howard knew the Hotspot would come in handy for Steve’s lengthy trip. Here, Steve chats with us about his stay in paradise, and his experience using GigSky cellular data in Mexico.
Let’s talk about your trip to Mexico. What prompted your trip? Do you head down south a lot? How was it?
We try to go every year to get away from the cold. Sometimes for a month, sometimes two. This was our 6th trip to Playa del Carman. The trip was great!
How often do you travel? When you do travel, is it mainly for work, leisure, both?
I still travel mostly for work. Maybe 4 or 5 work trips a year. Work trips are usually a week or two, and sometimes a month. We only travel once a year for a holiday to Mexico.
In the past, how have you remained connected when traveling? Hotel WiFi? Cellular data? Do you simply turn your data off, and wait to get back online in the hotel room? Have you ever been hit with roaming billshock from leaving your phone on?
I’m always connected. My travel is usually in Canada and I use cellular data a lot. I use WiFi when I can but I don’t like to rely on it. I’ve never been hit by billshock yet because I am very careful. When I have traveled to Mexico before, I have gotten a local SIM card with phone time and data. This latest time I was able to use GigSky cellular data and apartment WiFi to make WiFi calls.
When traveling, what do you like to stay connected to? Family, friends, work? Are there any data activities that are mission-critical when traveling?
When we travel we stay connected to family, friends and work just like at home. All three are ‘mission critical’ to us. I think in this day and age, everyone wants to be connected just like at home. We even use Slingbox to provide us with the same TV we get in Canada, while we are in Mex.
When was the moment you knew GigSky was right for you? What did GigSky do to prove you were getting real value out of the product?
GigSky was easy to set up before I left on my trip, and easy to use when I arrived at my destination. Also, it was a reliable source of cellular data in Mexico, a country where the WiFi and cellular data is often iffy at best. GigSky gave us the confidence to always have internet on hand when we needed it.
If you could sum up your GigSky experience with one word or phrase, what would it be?
It’s easy to use and it just works!
