Consider these VoIP Apps for Apple and Android, when using GigSky
We’ve been sharing some of the most popular VoIP apps to use with the GigSky Data Service. If you use a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) app, you can save money, because you won’t need the extra expense of signing up for a voice plan in addition to a data plan. You can simply use an app to make voice calls using a data-only service, like GigSky. Most of our customers are already using popular VoIP apps like Skype or Facebook Messenger (super easy) to make calls, chat or send messages.
In this post, we share a few other popular VoIP apps for both Apple and Android mobile devices that “travel” well with GigSky data.
Apple and Android: Snapchat
You can use a Snapchat account for travel with the GigSky Data SIM and use all the great features. If you’re a Snapchat fan and a frequent traveler, who doesn’t use the service abroad due to exorbitant international data roaming charges, you’ll save up to 90% using GigSky data. The all-new “travel mode” is designed specifically to reduce mobile data usage when roaming, so you can manage access to the app. In addition to travel mode, Snapchat’s iPhone application now lets you see who has viewed your story and puts more emoji characters at your fingertips.
Apple and Android: Viber
With over 400 million users, Viber represents one of the top VoIP app options for Android. Viber issues push notifications to keep you informed about incoming messages and delivers audio with HD quality. Viber allows you to not only to send and receive calls, but also to text your friends, relatives and colleagues at any time. Additionally, you can create messages with groups of up to 100 people and follow public chats.
The only downside lies in the need for all participants to have Viber. You can’t call or text someone who isn’t a member. Additionally, you might experience difficulty keeping a connection if you’re in an area with poor 3G connectivity.
Apple and Android: Skype
Skype is, by far, one of the most popular VoIP apps currently available. Skype’s call quality is excellent, the basic Skype to Skype service is free and video calls are easy to make. Individuals who use Skype on their smartphones can send instant messages and SMS messages for free and make calls to other users for a low fee using GigSky Data. The great part about the best VoIP app “Skype” is that it’s free to download, doesn’t require a monthly fee and has a user-friendly interface. We discuss Skype in more detail here.
Tango is slowly becoming an industry leader in VoIP, and is considered by many as Skype’s main competitor. Tango allows its users to make free calls on a 3G, 4G and LTE. The interface is easy to use and the service is always connected, even if you close the application.
Android: Google Hangouts
The Google Hangouts App works great with GigSky data. Use Hangouts to keep in touch using GigSky Data on your unlocked android smartphone. With over 2.5 million downloads its widely used and has some great features: Group chat, status messages, photos, videos, maps, emoji, stickers, and animated GIFs.
Android: TiKL Touch Talk Walkie Talkie
GigSky recommends this app for a group of travelers who want to stay in touch with each other. The Touch Talk VoIP app is one of the easiest communication apps to use. Once you download the app to your mobile phone, you can instantly chat with other friends and members in your travel party who have downloaded it too.
The app turns your phone into a walkie-talkie whenever the user opens it. It’s perfect for friends and family who want to maintain constant communication with each other.
These VoIP apps are great partner apps to using the GigSky service for mobile data. They’re convenient with great features and keep you connected to family, friends important emails, etc., Be aware that even through the use of any feature might be “free” to use, if that feature consumes mobile data, you’ll want to monitor how much GigSky data is used.
