There are two data plans available to eligible Visa cardholders from the Americas through the GigSky eSIM app, and they're built for different situations.

The first is a 10GB plan with a 15-day validity window. It works across 175+ countries and covers the full range of what you'd normally do on your phone: streaming, video calls, navigation, social media, uploads. No restrictions on the type of data.

The second plan is called Messaging + Essentials. It's more limited by design. You get messaging through WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, and Telegram (text only, no media). 

Email works in Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail, though attachments don't come through. 

For getting around, Google Maps and Apple Maps are included, and so are Uber, Lyft, Bolt, DiDi, and Google Translate.

What it won't do: streaming, voice or video calls, social media feeds, VPN services, App Store or Play Store downloads. It keeps you reachable and moving without eating through your primary data.

Both plans show up in the GigSky app once you add your card and confirm eligibility.

How to Check Your Card

Download the GigSky app, tap the Visa banner inside the app and add your Visa card. The app only shows plans you're actually eligible for, so if something appears, you can use it. Nothing will be listed as available and then denied later.

The card verification step doesn't charge you anything. It's only there to confirm eligibility.

If you carry more than one Visa card, check each one separately. Different cards can carry different Visa benefits, and in some cases you may qualify for plans on more than one.

Which Plan Makes Sense

The 10GB plan covers everything Messaging + Essentials doesn't. If you want to stream something on a long train ride, video call someone back home, check your social feeds, or download an app you forgot to grab before leaving, that's the one to use.

Messaging + Essentials works best when your needs are straightforward. Coordinating a pickup, sending a message to say you landed, getting directions from the airport. It handles all of that without touching your 10GB.

Some travelers use Essentials as a default and save the 10GB for specific situations that call for it. That works well if your trips are mostly logistics-focused and you're not planning to stream anything.

To activate either plan, go to My Plans in the GigSky app, find the plan you want, and tap Enable.

When the Plans Expire

The 10GB plan gives you 15 days from the moment you install the eSIM. Whatever data you haven't used disappears when that window closes. If you burn through the full 10GB before day 15, you can redeem it again one year from your original redemption date.

One thing worth keeping in mind: the 15-day window starts at installation, not when you land. Redeeming it weeks before your trip means part of that time runs out while you're still home. Waiting until a few days before departure lines the window up with when you actually need it.

Messaging + Essentials has a 365-day window from redemption, so it covers a full year of travel without any urgency around timing.

How It Compares to Carrier Roaming

If your carrier already includes international data in your monthly plan, the overlap with Visa credit card benefits​ like this one is real and worth thinking through before you double up.
