GigSky Visa Benefit vs Visa Destinations: Which Free Data Do You Actually Get?
Free international data comes in two versions. See which one your eligible Visa card unlocks, where it works, and how to check in the app in minutes.
If you have a debit or credit card with a Visa logo, there’s a good chance you won’t need to pay for international data when you travel.
Visa has partnered with GigSky, the eSIM provider that helped Apple during the creation of the first eSIM-compatible iPhone, and the GigSky Visa benefit comes in two versions: a global benefit with 1 GB to 10 GB of free data, and Visa Destinations, with up to 7 days of free unlimited data.
Which one you get depends on where your eligible Visa card was issued.
Which benefit applies to your eligible Visa card?
Eligible Visa cards issued in the U.S., Canada, Latin America or the Caribbean can use both benefits. Cards issued anywhere else qualify for Visa Destinations.
| Detail | Visa Destinations | Global benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible Cards | Eligible Visa debit and credit cards issued anywhere in the world | Eligible Visa cards issued in the U.S., Canada, Latin America or the Caribbean, Japan and Hong Kong. |
| Free data | Up to 7 days of free unlimited data: 7 days with an eligible Visa Infinite card, 3 days with other eligible Visa cards | 1 GB to 10 GB, depending on your card |
| Where it works | The USA, France, Dubai & the UAE, the UK, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, South Africa and Spain | 175+ countries |
| Discount on other GigSky plans | 20% to 30% | 20% to 30% |
| Cost to you | Free, no hidden fees | Free, no hidden fees |
What’s the difference between the GigSky Visa benefit and Visa Destinations?

The global Visa benefit gives you a fixed amount of data in 175+ countries and is aimed at eligible cardholders in the Americas, Japan and Hong Kong.
Visa Destinations gives you days of free unlimited data in selected countries, and any eligible Visa cardholder can use it, wherever the card was issued.
Visa Destinations is part of the same benefit, one of two ways to unlock GigSky free eSIM data.
On the global side, a card issued in the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean or any other country in the region comes with somewhere between 1 GB and 10 GB, depending on the card.
Visa Destinations count in days, not gigabytes. An eligible Visa Infinite card gets 7 days of free unlimited data and other eligible Visa cards get 3, in the USA, France, the UAE (including Dubai), the United Kingdom, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, South Africa and Spain.
If your card was issued in the Americas, you can use both. Anywhere else, and Visa Destinations is the one that applies, which is still very generous.
Both benefits also take 20% to 30% off other GigSky plans, from regional and country plans to cruise eSIMs and eSIMs for European ferries.
Once your card is verified, the discount is applied at checkout. Worth knowing if you cruise: the free data from Visa Destinations doesn’t cover cruise connectivity, but the discount does.
Which benefit gives you more value when you travel abroad?

The better benefit depends on your card and your destination. Flying to France with a card that includes 7 days of free unlimited data? Visa Destinations will be worth far more than a global benefit of just 1 GB.
Heading somewhere outside the Visa Destinations countries, with a card issued in the Americas? Then the global benefit and its 175+ countries are the ones that matter.
Either way, you’re getting a GigSky free eSIM trial with real data on a real trip. You find out whether the eSIM works for you before you spend anything.
How do you check if your card is eligible?
Eligibility depends on your card type, and the GigSky app is the only way to check it. It takes about a minute, and checking doesn’t charge you anything.
- Download the GigSky app from the App Store or Play Store.
- Tap the Visa banner.
- Enter your card number.
The app then shows whether your card is eligible and how much free data you get. Starting a GigSky eSIM free trial this way takes a few minutes, all inside the app.
Why use GigSky instead of a local SIM or another eSIM provider?
GigSky lets you set up your eSIM before you fly, so you arrive already connected. A local SIM can only be bought once you’ve landed.
You download the GigSky eSIM before your trip, pay and install it, and the setup is done. When you land, you have connectivity even before you leave the plane, which matters when you want someone at home to know you arrived safely.
A local SIM takes longer. First comes passport control and your bag, then a line at the shop and an ID check.
Then the swap: taking your home SIM out of your phone to put the local one in carries a higher risk of losing it. With an eSIM, your home SIM stays safely where it is.
GigSky also works as a mobile operator, not a reseller, so your phone connects automatically to the strongest local network without any manual setup.
Most other eSIM providers don’t include free data like this. You pay first and find out later whether the eSIM works.
A GigSky free eSIM trial reverses that order, and the free data on eligible Visa cards is the most generous in the eSIM market.
You also install the eSIM only once. Reuse it on every future trip, whether that’s another country or region, a cruise ship or a European ferry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are both benefits free, or are there hidden fees?
Both are free for eligible Visa cardholders, with no hidden fees. The data is a benefit that comes with your card.
Can you use both GigSky Visa benefits on the same trip?
No. You choose one benefit per trip. Both stay available to you, so the other one is there for a later trip.
Does GigSky give free data while Visa Destinations covers travel deals?
Yes to both. GigSky provides free international data, thanks to its partnership with Visa. Visa Destinations also includes experiences, travel deals, discounts on hotels and accommodation, and restaurant experiences in different countries.
Which countries are covered, and are there any restrictions?
The global benefit works in 175+ countries. Visa Destinations currently covers nine, and more are on the way, with each new destination showing up in your GigSky app. Your card has to be eligible, and you choose one benefit per trip.
Are the Visa Destinations deals exclusive, or can you find better deals elsewhere?
The GigSky free eSIM data tied to your card is exclusive to eligible Visa cardholders, and most other eSIM providers don’t provide free data like it.
How easy is it to activate a benefit, and what if something goes wrong abroad?
Easy. You do it all in the GigSky app, and it takes a few minutes. New benefits appear in the app as they’re added. If something goes wrong while you’re abroad, the GigSky Help Center covers the most common issues, or you can contact the support team through the app.
