*Please Note – Update to this post as of 9/2019 –
All iPads released after October 2018, have an eSIM, but you can also still get GigSky service via Apple SIM, which is a physical plastic SIM card, or Apple Embedded SIM. More updated info and a list of which iPad models and SIM types can be found here.
Apple SIM is a nano-SIM card that allows you to activate cellular data plans right from your iPad. We’ve got you covered in 140+ countries and territories.
If you didn’t get an Apple SIM card with your iPad, you can purchase an Apple SIM kit in the U.S. at Apple retail stores. I bought mine last year for $4.99. They’re not always out on display, so you may need to ask. The kits are also available at Apple Retail Stores in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
Which Wi-Fi + cellular iPad models have Apple SIM?
APPLE GENERALLY SHIPS THE FOLLOWING U.S. IPAD MODELS WITH APPLE SIM:
iPad 9.7″ Wi-Fi + Cellular model (this model was announced 3/21/2017)
iPad Pro (12.9-inch) Wi-Fi + Cellular model
iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular model
iPad mini 3 or later Wi-Fi + Cellular model
Which iPad Pro model has Embedded Apple SIM?
The iPad Pro (9.7-inch) Wi-Fi + Cellular model comes with an embedded Apple SIM. This means the user can’t remove it. It also has a nano-SIM tray that works with a carrier SIM card. We recommend you purchase your iPad directly from Apple. If you buy this iPad from a carrier, the embedded Apple SIM might be locked to that carrier or disabled. However, the SIM tray does remain unlocked, so you can use it with SIM cards from other carriers.
GigSky on-demand, a la carte data plans make it easy to purchase data on the go, for the duration of time best suited to your needs. Skip the headache of paying for yearly subscriptions, contracts, and potentially throttled data. GigSky pricing is totally transparent. You can view the cost of data plans upfront – never pay extra charges or hidden fees, and no throttling!
