How to Enjoy Prague and Be Always Online

July 25, 2024

Most people's visit to the Czech Republic begins in Prague. It is one of the most beautiful and most visited cities in the world. We definitely recommend spending a few days here to fully enjoy the city.

In the following lines, we will show you tips to make your stay more enjoyable.

Prague

Public Transport

Prague boasts one of the best and most affordable public transport systems in the world. The city offers a diverse range of transportation options, including the metro, trams, and buses. If you purchase a ticket from a machine at a stop or in a newsstand, don’t forget to validate it. A more convenient option is to use the PID Lítačka app, which makes buying and validating tickets easy. For this, you will need data, and with an eSIM, you’re online as soon as you step off the plane. Tickets can also be paid for directly on trams and buses using a card.

Ticket prices:

- 30 CZK for 30 minutes

- 40 CZK for 90 minutes

- 120 CZK for 24 hours

- 330 CZK for 72 hours

Airport Transport

Getting from Prague Airport to the city center can be done in several ways. You can take a trolleybus that falls under the public transport tariff, then transfer to the green metro line to reach the city center. Alternatively, you can use the Airport Express for 100 CZK, which takes you directly to the main train station, from where you can continue your journey by train throughout the Czech Republic. The last option is Uber, which can be ordered or using the kiosks at the airport or via the app.

However, you will need internet access to do so. Unfortunately, there are no mobile operator booths at the airport, making it difficult to obtain and install a traditional SIM card. These challenges are easily overcome with an eSIM, allowing you to be online as soon as you land.

Travel within the Czech Republic

For planning trips around the Czech Republic, the IDOS app is ideal, providing current information on connections. If you are traveling by train with the national railways, we recommend purchasing your ticket through the Můj vlak app or directly at the train station.

Money and Currency Exchange

In Prague, you can pay by card almost everywhere. If you need cash, withdraw it from ATMs of official banks and avoid Euronet ATMs. If you need to exchange money, never do it on the street. In exchange offices, carefully check the exchange rate and fees, as many exchange offices in Prague are not honest. We recommend the Exchange.cz offices, located on Franz Kafka’s street near the Astronomical Clock and on Štefánikova street.

Staying Connected on Your Travels

When traveling, you rely on your mobile phone for banking apps, maps, timetables, social media, and other handy tools. To fully enjoy your vacation, it’s not enough to depend solely on Wi-Fi. It’s more convenient to be always online. However, data roaming can be very expensive. A great solution is eSIM, which you can easily install on your device, getting you online in seconds.

If you haven’t experienced eSIM yet, you have a unique opportunity to try it with GigSky for free. Worldwide, you can install GigSky for free with 100 MB of data. If you like it, simply choose the data package that suits your needs, and you're all set.

What to Eat and Where

You cannot leave Prague without trying our national drink – beer. Be sure to try the well-known Pilsner Urquell, perhaps at Lokál or U Bansethů, where you can also enjoy a great meal. We also recommend trying local microbreweries like Automat Matuška (near Prague Castle), Dva Kohouti, or Strahov Monastery Brewery. If you are at the Old Town Square by the Astronomical Clock, avoid overpriced restaurants and visit the cozy Skautský institut.

For traditional Czech dishes, we recommend svíčková and knedlo vepřo zelo, which can be enjoyed at restaurants such as Havelská koruna, Lokál, U Bansethů, Kuchyň, U Kalendů, or recently open 420 at Oldtown square. Having an eSIM is also handy in this case, as you can easily look up restaurant websites and make reservations for your lunch or dinner. This ensures you have a table waiting for you at your desired dining spot.

For desserts, visit the Myšák patisserie and try the laskonka, větrník, or věneček. Although not a traditional Czech dessert, trdelník is popular, and we recommend trying it without ice cream to enjoy the taste of the dough.

For a snack, don’t forget to try traditional Czech open-faced sandwiches, which can be found in numerous delis across Prague.

What to See in Prague

Prague offers countless tourist attractions. We recommend starting at Wenceslas Square with the National Museum, continuing to the Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock, walking across Charles Bridge, visiting Malostranské náměstí, and ending the day at Prague Castle. At Prague Castle, don’t miss the Golden Lane, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the castle itself. We recommend buying tickets on ticketportal.cz to avoid long lines.

Other interesting places include Petřín with its lookout tower, accessible by a funicular (a separate ticket is required), Vyšehrad with a stunning view of Prague, and Letná Park. In the evening, it’s nice to relax by the water at Kampa or Náplavka. The Technical Museum is also a great option.

Must-see landmarks:

- Prague Castle

- St. Vitus Cathedral

- Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock

- Charles Bridge

- Wenceslas Square

- Vyšehrad

Day Trips from Prague

If you have time for trips outside Prague, we recommend visiting Karlštejn, Kutná Hora, Český Krumlov, or Bohemian Switzerland National Park. All are easily accessible by train and bus. Timetables can be found in the aforementioned IDOS app. You will likely use maps frequently, so staying online is essential. The best way to stay connected is with an eSIM for the Czech Republic.

Conclusion

Exploring the fun and charm of Prague can be a wonderful experience, especially with an eSIM from GigSky to keep you connected. For additional tips on exploring Prague, visit Honest Guide’s youtube or check out their website. Enjoy your trip and make the most of every moment with GigSky's eSIM!
