Norwegian Cruise WiFi Pricing Guide & Analysis

July 13, 2025

Staying connected while traveling at sea can be both convenient and costly. Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) offers various WiFi plans to help passengers stay online during their cruise. However, with alternative options like GigSky's Cruise + Land eSIM gaining popularity, how do these connectivity solutions compare in terms of cost and value?

This guide breaks down NCL cruise WiFi pricing, compares it to GigSky’s offering, and shares tips on saving money during your trip.

WiFi Pricing Options on Norwegian Cruise Lines

Norwegian cruise WiFi comes in two WiFi packages to meet the needs of passengers: Voyage Wi-Fi Pass and Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass. They are both touted as “unlimited” in terms of connectivity and data usage.

With the Voyage plan, cruisers have access to social media apps, Wi-Fi calling, email access and internet browsing. This plan also allows for file sharing. It doesn’t include video and music streaming or VPN access.

The Steaming Voyage plan includes all of the above, plus faster connectivity speeds, VPN access, and video and music streaming.

1. Voyage Wi-Fi Pass

  • Cost: $29.99 per day per device
  • Best for: Guests needing consistent internet for a full day, such as travelers working remotely or streaming content.
  • Drawback: Costs can be significant for longer voyages.

2. Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass

  • Cost: $39.99 per day per device
  • Best for: Guests who need high bandwidth, like professionals on video calls or families streaming Netflix.
  • Drawback: One of the most expensive cruise WiFi plans in the industry.

Norwegian Cruise WiFi Cost Analysis

To better understand the cost of NCL cruise WiFi, we calculated the cost for one device for a 7-day cruise. This means needing seven days of connectivity. The following are the estimated costs per plan:‍

  • Voyage Wi-Fi Pass: $209.93
  • Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass: $279.93

When compared to standard internet rates on land, cruise ship WiFi costs a significant premium. The higher pricing stems from the satellite technology required to deliver connectivity at sea.

For budget-conscious travelers, using free internet at in-port cafes and attractions can cut down WiFi expenses. However, for longer cruises or those with consecutive sea days, staying offline entirely might not be feasible. Luckily, there’s other technology to rely on.

GigSky vs. Norwegian Cruise WiFi Pricing

For travelers looking for alternatives to cruise ship WiFi, GigSky’s Cruise + Land eSIM is a robust choice. Here's how it compares:

GigSky Cruise + Land eSIM

  • Cost: Plans start at $19.99
  • Coverage: Both onboard cruise ships and in port destinations
  • Advantages:
    • Seamless connectivity between ship and shore
    • Global coverage in popular cruise regions
    • Cost-effective for frequent cruisers or data-savvy users
  • No Hidden Fees:
    • Never worry about data roaming charges; you only pay for what you need.

Norwegian Cruise WiFi

  • Cost: Starts at $29.99 per day
  • Coverage: Only works onboard ships
  • Advantages:
    • Integrated into the Norwegian Cruise experience
  • Drawback:
    • Not usable off the ship; travelers will need an additional solution once docked.
    • Extremely expensive, especially when adding additional devices and opting for the premium plan.
    • Expect data throttling even though the plans are touted as “unlimited.”

Tips for Saving on Cruise WiFi

Cruise eSIM data plan
  1. Pre-Purchase Discounts

Sometimes discounts are offered for WiFi if purchased before boarding the ship. While Norwegian Cruise Lines doesn’t currently advertise such discounts, it’s worth asking during booking.

  1. Leverage Free WiFi Onshore

Many ports of call feature free WiFi in cafes, restaurants, or public spaces. Save your onboard data for when you’re at sea.

  1. Alternate Solutions like GigSky

If uninterrupted connectivity is non-negotiable, consider a service like the GigSky app that allows you to use your plan both at sea and onshore. This minimizes reliance on costly cruise ship WiFi.

  1. Choose the Right Plan for Your Needs

Analyze your data usage beforehand. For example, if you don’t need to stream, you can save by opting for Norwegian’s basic plan.

5. Turn Off Auto-Updates

Prevent apps or devices from eating up bandwidth and data allowance by disabling background updates and syncing.

6. Download Content in Advance
Save entertainment, maps, and other essentials ahead of your trip to reduce in-cruise data needs.

Final Thoughts: Which Connectivity Option is Right for You?

Choosing between Norwegian Cruise WiFi and a solution like GigSky ultimately depends on your usage and budget. If you prioritize convenience and seamless connection across the ship, NCL's packages are a reliable—though costly—choice. Meanwhile, GigSky's Cruise + Land eSIM offers flexibility and affordability, especially for tech-savvy travelers comfortable managing their own mobile data settings.

For a balanced approach, you might consider preloading downloads for offline access. By planning ahead, you can stay connected without breaking the bank. Stay connected on your cruise with tips on WiFi packages, eSIM options, and smart data strategies to balance cost, convenience, and connectivity.
